Late breaking abstracts are accepted from 17 August to 7 September, exclusively as poster presentations. You may submit an abstract through your personal mySHVM2015 page after registering.
Welcome to the 13th Annual Meeting of the Society for Heart and Vascular Metabolism. The Society was founded in 2000, with the intent of providing a forum for the free exchange of ideas by a group of investigators with a special interest in the multiple roles of intermediary metabolism in the cardiovascular system. An important aim of the Society is to foster interactions between young investigators and senior scientists in an informal setting. Our meetings are deliberately designed to maximize these interactions. There is growing recognition of the importance of metabolic homeostasis across many areas of medical research, including the cardiovascular arena. The Society for Heart and Vascular Metabolism intends to remain at the vanguard of this important area.
The scientific topic of the 2015 meeting is "Protein and amino acid metabolism and the role of post-translational protein modifications on substrate metabolism: cardiovascular consequences". Proteins serve as structural components of the cell, energetic substrates for amino acid metabolism and distinct parts of the signaling apparatus of the cell. Not surprisingly, disruptions in protein metabolism affect cellular homeostasis and viability. The 2015 meeting will focus on novel scientific discoveries that provide mechanistic insight into cardiac metabolic dysregulation with an emphasis on translational and post-translational protein modifications, amino acid metabolism and protein catabolism. As in prior meetings, there will be numerous opportunities for young investigators to give oral presentations, and additionally this year we have expanded the poster sessions.
We look forward to welcoming you to historic Tarrytown, located 25 miles north of New York City, to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the SHVM!
With best wishes,
